Ahmed Al-Muhammadi played the full 90 minutes as Sunderland claimed a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in their penultimate pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The Egyptian wing-back, who was praised by coach Steve Bruce for being able to carry out defensive and attacking duties, played on the right side of a four-man midfield.

He whipped in some decent crosses during the first half but his teammates could not make the most of them.

In-form striker Fraizer Campbell gave Sunderland the lead after five minutes for his sixth goal in the pre-season games.

Andy King brought Leicester level on the quarter hour mark but a second-half thunderbolt from Jordan Henderson gave Sunderland a win.

Al-Muhammadi joined Sunderland from Egyptian Premier League side ENPPI on a season-long loan.

He featured in four friendlies for the Black Cats, who open their Premier League campaign against Birmingham City on August 14 at the Stadium of Light.
